Adhar Shila Temple, Baba Ramdev Temple is symbolic of divine duty and devotion. Perched on the sandstone hills of Masuria between Nagori Gate and Jalori Gate in Jodhpur, the main attraction of this temple lies in its antiquity. The numerous legends and stories behind this temple lure a lot of tourists looking forward to an interesting story. And if that is not enough, a small rock outside the temple inscribed with the words “Enter at your own risk”, is sure to tempt even the least curious of souls to enter the temple premises. 

The temple attracts a lot of devotees especially in the 'Bhadva' season or during August-September. Earlier, the only access to the temple was a rickety stairway kept against the vertical rock pillar. But the danger was worth the spectacular views afforded at the top, and acted as a strong lure for adventure enthusiasts. But recently, a proper stairway has been built to easier access to the temple. Climbing up to this temple may not be so thrilling anymore, but the views from the top remain as amazing as ever!

Baba Ramdevji is a folk-deity of Rajasthan in India. He was a saint of the fourteenth century who devoted his life to the upliftment of the downtrodden. Ramdevji was a Tanwar Rajput. While Hindus regard him as an incarnation of Lord Krishna, Muslims venerate him as Ramshah Pir. He is said to have had miraculous powers, and his fame reached far and wide. Baba Ramdevji believed in the equality of all human beings, be they high or low, rich or poor. He helped the down-trodden by granting them their wishes. Baba Ramdev is often depicted on horseback. His worship crosses the Hindu-Muslim divide as well as the distinctions of caste. His followers include caste Hindus and the Dalits in modern-day Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Delhi and also in Sindh in Pakistan. Several Rajasthani melas (fairs or festivals) are held to commemorate him. श्री अजमल जी को द्वारकानाथ के दर्शन राजा अजमल जी द्वारकानाथ के परमभक्त होते हुए भी उनको दु:ख था कि इस तंवर कुल की रोशनी के लिये कोई पुत्र नहीं था और वे एक बांझपन थे। दूसरा दु:ख था कि उनके ही राजरू में पड़ने वाले पोकरण से ३ मील उत्तर दिशा में भैरव राक्षस ने परेशान कर रखा था। इस कारण राजा रानी हमेशा उदास ही रहते थे। सन्तान ही माता-पिता के जीवन का सुख है। राजा अजमल जी पुत्र प्राप्ति के लिये दान पुण्य करते, साधू सन्तों को भोजन कराते, यज्ञ कराते, नित्य ही द्वारकानाथ की पूजा करते थे। इस प्रकार राजा अजमल जी भैरव राक्षस को मारने का उपाय सोचते हुए द्वारका जी पहुंचे। जहां अजमल जी को भगवान के साक्षात दर्शन हुए, राजा के आखों में आंसू देखकर भगवान में अपने पिताम्बर से आंसू पोछकर कहा, हे भक्तराज रो मत मैं तुम्हारा सारा दु:ख जानता हूँ। मैं तेरी भक्ती देखकर बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ, माँगो क्या चाहिये तुम्हें मैं तेरी हर इच्छायें पूर्ण करूँगा। भगवान की असीम कृपा से प्रसन्न होकर बोले हे प्रभु अगर आप मेरी भक्ती से प्रसन्न हैं तो मुझे आपके समान पुत्र चाहिये याने आपको मेरे घर पुत्र बनकर आना पड़ेगा और राक्षस को मारकर धर्म की स्थापना करनी पड़ेगी। तब भगवान द्वारकानाथ ने कहा- हे भक्त! जाओ मैं तुम्हे वचन देता हूँ कि पहले तेरे पुत्र विरमदेव होगा तब अजमल जी बोले हे भगवान एक पुत्र का क्या छोटा और क्या बड़ा तो भगवान ने कहा- दूसरा मैं स्वयं आपके घर आउंगा। अजमल जी बोले हे प्रभू आप मेरे घर आओगे तो हमें क्या मालूम पड़ेगा कि भगवान मेरे धर पधारे हैं, तो द्वारकानाथ ने कहा कि जिस रात मैं घर पर आउंगा उस रात आपके राज्य के जितने भी मंदिर है उसमें अपने आप घंटियां बजने लग जायेगी,महल में जो भी पानी होगा (रसोईघर में) वह दूध बन जाएगा तथा मुख्य द्वार से जन्म स्थान तक कुमकुम के पैर नजर आयेंगे वह मेरी आकाशवाणी भी सुनाई देगी और में अवतार के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो जाउँगा। श्री बाबा रामदेव जी का जन्म श्री रामदेव जी का जन्म संवत् १४०९ में भाद्र मास की दूज को राजा अजमल जी के घर हुआ। उस समय सभी मंदिरों में घंटियां बजने लगीं, तेज प्रकाश से सारा नगर जगमगाने लगा। महल में जितना भी पानी था वह दूध में बदल गया, महल के मुख्य द्वार से लेकर पालने तक कुम कुम के पैरों के पदचिन्ह बन गए, महल के मंदिर में रखा संख स्वत: बज उठा। उसी समय राजा अजमल जी को भगवान द्वारकानाथ के दिये हुए वचन याद आये और एक बार पुन: द्वारकानाथ की जयबोली। इस प्रकार ने द्वारकानाथ ने राजा अजमल जी के घर अवतार लिया।
